IS IT ALL OVER FOR UKIP SOTON?
UKIP in Southampton had the perfect opportunity to offer residents of Southampton something different to the main 3 parties but have contiued to bang on about europe at local elections at a time when the residents of our city want to know what political parties and candidates will be doing for them locally.
At the recent local elections in May 2008 UKIP despite doing alot of groundwork in the Swaythling ward since the previous elections finished behind both the Green Party candidate and Southampton First and they need to be asking themselves why.
Residents in Southampton want to know what parties will be doing about the state of the roads, our public services and council taxes and The Liberal Party will shortly be displaying what plans it has for Southampton ready for the 2010 local elections.
We will not just arrive at elections time but will be here all year round.

Exeter Liberals hard at work
It’s serious work being a councillor
Cllrs David Morrish and Chris Gale have been surveying the state of the pavements in Heavitree’s (Exeter) shopping centre.
A spate of pedestrian accidents have resulted in a number of older residents losing confidence to go out.
Chris Gale expressed his concern that the LibDems have cut the county maintenance budget for pavement repairs while at the same time increasing their own “responsibility allowances”.
“We have had good press coverage and will hopefully shame the county councillors into action on behalf of pedestrians and not themselves” added David Morrish.
Community support for candidate
Local election candidate Ann Hines (centre) and her supporters in West Derby, Liverpool.
Ann left the LibDems just before the May election and local Liberals came out to support her move.
Unfortunately she was not successful but polled a very respectable 731 votes (see our election results page) after a short campaign. A firm basis here for next year's elections.
